Cuvée des Cadettes 2013
AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The Cuvée des Cadettes is an entire story!
Indeed, it was the first plot replanted after the phylloxera aphid ravaged millions of hectares of vines. We owe this first plantation to Joseph Ducos, the estate’s owner, in the nineteenth century. Since then, the Cuvée des Cadettes has been made with the best grenache, syrah, and mourvèdre grapes expressing this unique terroir – elegant, intense, sophisticated, and well-balanced. To be enjoyed with wild game, aged meats, and other dishes as rare and complex as this wine.
The color is dark garnet with purple hints. The nose, still a little shy for now, shows black cherry liqueur aromas with toasted notes barely veiled by fruity scent of strawberries and balsamic. A complex nose then gives way in the mouth to richness, density and concentration : sandalwood, cedar, cherry blossom line up together, follow up by spices : aromatic complexity and elegance, both qualities that reveal richness and balance of La Nerthe.
